Here’s an easy recipe where you simply marinate beef and onions in a sweet-savory sauce, then cook them. It’s hearty and satisfying, and works just as well served with rice as it does over rice in a bowl. It’s also delicious turned into yaki udon (stir-fried udon noodles). You can make it with pork instead of beef, too.

Cut the onion in half lengthwise, place the cut side down, and slice into 5 mm wide pieces.

Add the ingredients marked with ☆ to a bowl and mix.

Add the beef and onion, mix well, and marinate for about 15 minutes.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan, add the marinated mixture from step 3, and stir-fry over medium heat until the onion turns translucent and the beef is cooked through.
