Crack the egg into a bowl and mix. Add the milk and pancake mix, mixing well after each addition.

Lightly coat the hot plate with vegetable oil using a paper towel and heat to medium. Spoon the batter from step 1 onto the hot plate in small ¾-inch (2 cm) rounds. When bubbles appear on the surface, flip them over and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly browned.

Transfer to a plate and drizzle with maple syrup.
