Instructions
1
Bring the puff pastry sheets to room temperature. Quarter the apples and remove the cores. Peel them, then cut into small pieces.
2
Combine the apples, sugar, and unsalted butter in a pot and cook over medium heat, stirring. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the moisture has evaporated. Let cool. This is your apple compote.
3
Dust a cutting board with flour. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 4 equal pieces, then cut each piece in half lengthwise. Prick half of the pastry pieces with a fork to make the bases. Cut 4 horizontal slits in the remaining pieces with a knife to make the tops. Prepare the second sheet the same way.
4
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place one-eighth of the apple compote on each pastry base and top with a slitted pastry piece. Press the edges together with your hands, then crimp with a fork to seal.
5
Brush the tops with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes.

To save time, I microwaved the apples at 600W for 5 minutes first, then added butter, sugar, and cinnamon and microwaved them for another 5 minutes. I mixed in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, then drained them in a colander. It hardly takes any time, so as long as you have the ingredients, you can make it anytime! If you prepare the apple compote the day before, it seems like an easy option for breakfast too. One tablespoon of lemon juice may make it a little tart, but it gives it a refreshing taste. If that concerns you, half the amount might be enough. It also seems suitable for making ahead. I wrapped it in aluminum foil, and when it was time to eat, I warmed it as is in the toaster oven. My family loved it ✨

I think this is absolutely foolproof, even for first-timers! I drank up the leftover egg.

It was my first time making this, but it turned out really well! I spread custard cream underneath. (I made it less sweet.) It was also delicious with cinnamon added to the apples! I replaced the sugar with Lakanto and added 2 tablespoons. I found it easier to wrap when the apples were cooked down thoroughly. If it feels too difficult, I think apple jam would work too! I baked it at 400°F (200°C) for 25 minutes. Rather than following the recipe exactly, I think it’s better to watch it and decide the baking time as you go. I think it would have browned a bit more if I had used only egg yolk for the beaten egg brushed on top.

This might be the first time I’ve given 5 stars! I had some custard made ahead, so I added it. Also, I followed [Piyo]’s comment and added: - 1 tbsp lemon juice - 1/2 tsp cinnamon and it turned out perfect! The flavor really came together!

It was my first time using pie sheets and baking an apple pie, but they weren’t difficult to handle at all, and it turned out very delicious. My family loved it too! The second time, I made it together with my child, and it came out well, so we were very happy with it. I also added a little cinnamon and lemon juice. The second time, I forgot to add butter to the apples, so it turned out lighter, but that was nice in its own way too. I cooked the apples the day before so all I had to do was bake it. With a baking time of 15 minutes, it felt like it needed a little more, but 20 minutes seemed slightly overbaked. I’d love to keep making this again as a fun thing to do at home during the cold winter.

Cinnamon is a must—it goes perfectly! It baked up really beautifully! It was the most delicious apple pie I’ve ever had. The key is to seal the edges properly with a fork.

I was able to make it really well. If it were sold at a bakery, you might not even notice the difference. That may be an exaggeration, but it really did turn out that good-looking and delicious ( ¨̮ ) I’m usually not very good at cooking and often get grumpy while I’m at it, but this time I was able to finish making it with a big smile on my face 🍎🥧 Please give it a try, everyone (´▽`) '`

I’ve made this again and again. Whenever I share it with coworkers or friends, everyone says it’s delicious and is so happy, which makes me happy too. My son and his girlfriend are coming over next time, so I’d like to bake it again.

It was my first time making it, but it turned out well. The instructions were easy to follow.

I made this with my child. It was easy, but since neither of us is very skillful, it took some time. That made it all the more delicious. I’d like to make it again using seasonal ingredients. Thank you for the meal. Notes: The apple I used this time was a Mutsu apple from Aomori Prefecture. It has a well-balanced sweetness and tartness. With these amounts, using 8 sheets of puff pastry makes a total of 16 pieces. On a certain recipe site, they used twice as much sugar for 2 apples. With this recipe, the sweetness is more restrained, and you can still fully enjoy the natural sweetness of the apples. I turned the juice into apple jelly. (1 serving: 200 ml) This time, the juice from making the filling came to 150 ml. I dissolved 3 g of gelatin in 50 ml of hot water, added it to the juice, mixed well, then chilled it in the refrigerator until set. The fluffy apple jelly was sweet and very delicious.
